👍 What to Expect From Chained Echoes We're about to melt a couple of snowfolks So, it makes me very happy that I got to interview him last year about what went into developing Chained Echoes and it makes for a rather interesting read so be sure to check that out before diving into the game for yourself. Working on this game for 7 years, it's obvious that his efforts have paid off as this is one fantastic and unforgettable adventure. ⚔️ Chained Echoes ReviewĪs I mentioned, Chained Echoes is a passion project and its solo developer Matthias Linda certainly dedicated a lot of his time and talent into creating this modern RPG throwback. In fact, there are many aspects of Chained Echoes that brought back memories such as how the story structure is similar to Final Fantasy VI and exploring the environments is highly reminiscent of Chrono Trigger so it'll appeal to any long-time RPG enthusiast.
Although you can't necessarily grind, the Sky Armor system makes combat a satisfying endeavour and reminded me of one of my favourite games of all time: Xenoblade.
For starters, you don't level-up and the strategic battle system will surely put your skills to the test. With that being said, there are some unexpected twists that make this indie gem a wholly unique adventure. The gameplay of Chained Echoes will feel familiar to anyone who played RPGs in the mid-'90s, especially the 2D PS1 games that helped solidify the genre. Once you do, you'll be left with oodles of memories and be itching for a sequel. It's also one of those slow-burn kind of RPGs that you'll want to play over a long period of time to get the most out of it.
